I like New York City’s hectic and relentless spirit. Still, the city slows down in the Summer and I needed to escape the humid weather for a while.
Something new: Türkiye
My first escape this Summer was to Istambul, a city with a unique code. I adored the new smells, its color palette, and sketching the unfamiliar faces.
One of my passions is the history of people making pictures. I couldn’t miss visiting the ruins of Göbeklitepe, maybe the oldest human settlement, and checking the animal figures carved in massive stones.
Something different
I took a five-day Graphic Novel workshop with Paul Karasik at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont. It’s rewarding to acquire a new visual language and to learn how different it is from the language of picture books.
A new bookstore in town: Sullaluna
The NYC location of an original Italian branch is now in the West Village. They have a great picture book selection and you can have a drink while turning the pages. Watch for their picture book authors’ events.
My picture book classes are starting soon!!!
A new edition of my Picture Book courses at SVA starts on October 1 & 3. All welcome! Please spread the word to anyone interested in learning how to create picture books or needing a structure to go forward in their project.
